Thomas Norris Infill Planes
Thomas Norris is arguably the most well known of the traditional infill plane makers due, in part, to his unique and innovative cutter adjustment mechanism.
To help compete against the imported iron planes from the U.S., Thomas Norris produced the A50 annealed iron smoothing plane with patented Norris adjuster.
Norris-made steel-soled gunmetal unhandled smoother plane with ebony infill. This plane is stamped with the Richard Melhuish & Sons, Fetter Lane, Holborn mark.
Norris No. 14 smoothing plane stamped “W. Short, Essex Rd., N” on the gunmetal lever-cap. W. Short was a London-based toolmaker and dealer trading in the early 1900’s.
