User-Made Infill Smoothing Plane With Beech Infill

A simple, yet attractive user-made parallel cast iron smoothing plane with overstuffed beech infill and open beechwood handle. The profile of the cast iron sides is reminiscent of American-style metal planes, and the infill has been fixed in place by screws.

The front bun is functional and provides a comfortable grip, and the brass lever cap features a nicely turned screw, however I would not want to tighten this one up too much as the cap appears to be slightly thinner than I would normally like them to be.

The plane is 9-3/4″ long and 2-1/2″ wide, and has a 2-1/4″ wide Marples cutting iron.
