“London Pattern” Bullnose Plane By Isaac Green

Isaac Green was a London based tool maker and dealer whose premises were located at 11 Sutherland Terrace, Pimlico. Green was in business from between 1857 to 1905 and his name is mainly found stamped on metal planes, such as this London pattern bullnose plane.

The plane itself is 3-3/4″ long and 1-1/8″ wide, and the Sorby iron — possibly the original iron — is still of good length. The iron is held in place by an nicely shaped ebony wedge.

This bullnose plane is stamped “GREEN, PIMLICO” as well as “PATENT METAL” on the toe, or front, of the plane. There are no assembly numbers present.

Just like the C.W. Ridgeway coffin-sided smoothing plane featured elsewhere on this site, not that much is known of this maker.

Another rare and desirable little plane.
