User-Made Coachbuilders T-Rabbet Infill Plane

An unusual and user-made coachbuilders T-rabbet infill plane with rosewood infill and wedge. The 1-3/4″ wide Marples iron is bedded at 60 degrees — which is rather a high angle for your average infill rabbet plane. I’ve no doubt that it would’ve worked perfectly well however.

The steel sole has been screwed to the main body, though I’m unsure if the screws are wood screws or machine screws. I suspect that, as the plane itself looks well made, there would be a strip or bar of steel riveted to the inside of the base of the main body which has been drilled and tapped, and that machine screws have been fixed to this part. That’s probably how I would’ve done it anyway. Either that or have the sole riveted to a similar strip or bar.

The overall length of the plane is 6-1/2″, making it a nice compact little tool capable of getting into tight places.

A cute and unique (and no doubt quite useful) little plane
