Sauer + Steiner 14-3/4″ Panel Plane With Cocobolo Infill

The 1990’s and early 2000’s have seen a remarkable growth in boutique planemakers around the world, and a good deal of these have been infill plane makers. One of these is Canadian maker Sauer + Steiner, nowadays run by Konrad Sauer on his own, sans Steiner.

This particular A1 infill panel plane was hand made by Konrad in 2004. The bronze sides have been dovetailed to the steel sole, making a feature of the dovetails themselves. The plane is meticulously infilled with beautifully-figured cocobolo, a type of rosewood from South America. As you can see the fit and finish are second to none.

Konrad is widely considered to be one of the finest planemakers in the world today, and his planes are enjoyed by both collectors and users. Be sure to check out his website at www.sauerandsteiner.com for more delicious infill plane eye candy!
