Smoothing planes are also known as “smooth planes” or just simply “smoothers”. They are typically between 7″ and 10″ in length.

Unhandled coffin smoothing plane marked “BUCK, 242, TOTTENHAM CT RD” on the gunmetal lever cap and, most likely, made by Thomas Norris of London.
A well made Stanley type dovetailed infill smoothing plane with rosewood infill and Stanley lever cap made by an unknown maker.
Thomas Norris is arguably the most well known of the traditional infill plane makers due, in part, to his unique and innovative cutter adjustment mechanism.
